Titus Hale papers, ca. 1868-1878.

This collection contains four books of research done by Titus Hale with the aid of William M. White on the titles of property to Rancho San Andres. Hale owned some interest in the ranch located between Watsonville and Santa Cruz. He commenced and carried on a partition suit, by which title to property was settled. The law suit resulting from this research was Briody vs. Hale and resulted in Hale retaining 3000 acres of Rancho San Andres.

Titus Hale was born Feb. 2, 1834, arriving on the California line Sept. 1, 1849. A month later he arrived at Lawsons where his company separated. When Sacramento flooded, Hale boarded the brig "Toronto". On March 4, 1850, Hale and his party headed for Georgetown and settled at Oregon Canon, from there they went on to Spanish Bar and Shirt-Tail Canon.
